S/Lt. Michael A. McColley, NRP was appointed to the Emergency Medical Services Division in July 1989 and enrolled in the Medical Center of Delaware Paramedic Education Program.  He successfully completed the Paramedic Education Program in June 1990.


S/Lt. McColley has been assigned to several paramedic units during his tenure as a paramedic, including Medic 5 (Southern New Castle County), Medic 6 (Glasgow), and Medic 9 (Power Shift, Newark).  He was promoted to the rank of Paramedic Corporal in April 2004 following the implementation of the EMS Career Development Plan.  He was promoted to the rank of Paramedic Sergeant in 2013, Lieutenant in December 2015, and to his current rank of Senior Lieutenant in June 2020. In January 2018, S/Lt. Michael A. McColley was reassigned from Commander, Platoon IV in the Operations Branch to his current position in the Administration/Special Operations Branch as the Recruitment and Applicant Processing Coordinator. 


S/Lt. McColley holds an Associate in Applied Sciences degree in Emergency Services Management from Delaware Technical and Community College, where he has also served as an adjunct instructor for the Paramedic Training Program.  He is also a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Academy sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Chiefs of Police.


S/Lt. McColley has received several official commendations, including a Department of Public Safety Letter of Commendation (3 awards), Commendation of Merit (2 awards), Distinguished Unit Citation (3 awards), a Phoenix Club Award, and multiple Pre-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest Save Citations.
